Abstract:
It discusses the assumptions for the correct spelling of three-digit numerals derived from numerical models transcoding Power & dal Martello (1990) and Barrouillet, Camus, Perruchet & Seron (2004). It analyzes the inter-digit jump digits in 25 children in Grade I when correctly written three digits numerals, the results show a better fit to the model predictions of Barrouillet et al (2004), with longer inter-digit jumps in writing non-zero digits and shorter times before writing zero. Suggesting that the transcoding correct three-digit numerals, the entire string is stored in a buffer to be produced by graphomotor procedures and the time between digits does not reflect the syntactic structure of the Arabic numerals.
